Estimate the power your equipment will draw

Electrical load calculator for your equipment

You’re pricing equipment for your brewery, winery, distillery or food business and need to budget for the power too. Enter each item’s manufacturer electrical input rating in kW, the power the unit draws from your service, not its shaft or motor output and not its cooling capacity. Solon specifies and supplies equipment and builds and programs control panels. Use this rough estimate for early budgeting and power-company conversations; you’ll still need a final electrical design.

Enter the electrical input kW of the equipment you plan to run and the tool adds up your connected load and estimates the current it would draw at your service voltage. Planning a new operation or adding equipment? Send us your equipment list. Find more planning help in our tools collection.

Enter the electrical input kW for the equipment you want included. Current assumes a balanced three-phase load at the selected line-to-line voltage, or a 240V single-phase equivalent.

The total-load power factor for this estimate, kW divided by kVA. Enter your facility or supplier figure; none is assumed for you.

Optional context for your planning notes. Hours are not used in the connected-load or current calculation.

How This Estimator Works

This electrical load calculator builds your planning estimate in three steps:

  • Connected Load: Sum of the electrical input kW you entered, plus lighting and receptacle loads from your density assumptions
  • Apparent Power and Current: Your connected kW is divided by the aggregate power factor you supply to get kVA, and current is then calculated at your selected voltage and phase.
  • Planning Review: Demand, service design, voltage drop and grounding are flagged as design subjects to raise with your electrical designer.

Important Design Considerations

Professional electrical design should also address:

  • Local Code Requirements: Municipal and state electrical codes
  • Utility Coordination: Service availability and connection fees
  • Future Expansion: Panel space and feeder capacity for growth
  • Emergency Systems: Generator and life safety requirements

Let's plan your panels and equipment

Solon specifies and supplies the equipment packages and builds and programs the control panels, so the equipment list behind this estimate is where that work starts. Send the equipment list and your results.
